RRT has marked National Homelessness Week by providing a community barbecue in support of the Walk in Her Shoes exhibition and forum on housing insecurity.

The touring exhibition is an initiative by Council to Homeless Persons, aimed at bringing together community leaders and relevant agencies to discuss homelessness and housing insecurity.

Local Team Leader Daniel Kidd said volunteers from Moe were on hand to provide a barbecue dinner to those attending the event at Gippsland Performing Arts Centre.

“Homelessness Week is about showing those in our community who are doing it tough that there are people who care,” said Daniel.

“Initiatives like Walk in Her Shoes are vital when it comes to starting conversations about how we can work together to help those at risk of, or experiencing, homelessness.

“RRT was pleased to provide 70 meals for the community barbecue dinner ahead of the Walk in Her Shoes forum and exhibition.”

Walk in Her Shoes tells the stories of three women who experienced homelessness at different stages of life, as well as what helped them rebuild their lives.

As the charitable arm of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church, RRT supports frontline workers and emergency services by providing food, donations and other resources, as well as hosting events for the community. These efforts reflect the Plymouth Brethren values, which emphasise practical care, generosity and supporting communities in times of need.

Established in 2013 to assist emergency services in times of disaster and crisis by providing meals and other support, it’s expanded to more than 16,500 volunteers and provides support to the community through charitable donations and events.
