RRT volunteers from Torbay fuelled emergency services and other agencies with a hot breakfast before they set off for a SAR (Search And Rescue) Exercise. SAR is the search for, and provision of aid to, people who are in distress or imminent danger. The exercise, which involves Police, Fire, Coast Guard, Dartmoor Search and Rescue plus other agencies who work in synergy to locate persons in distress or missing, kicked off at Dartmoor Common where the teams were briefed, before they set off at 10.00am

RRT was onsite from 8:00am serving over 150 warming Bacon & Cheese Baps for breakfast, and continued to provide snacks and hot drinks throughout the event, which closed at 3:00pm.

CM George Bartlett of DS Fire, present at the event said “During the multi-agency training event on Dartmoor last Saturday, food and hot/cold beverages were supplied by Rapid Relief Team (RRT). During the exercise at the weekend I had a brief chat with Stan Wallis, the Regional Team Leader about the team, and how we would go about requesting them at larger scale incidents and exercises.”

Stan Wallis, RRT’s Regional Team Leader (RTL) said “The Team did a sterling job in providing 150 hot breakfast meals in a very short space of time, meaning the SAR teams could get on with their training exercise, and continued to supply hot drinks and snacks throughout our time on site. RRT is a great resource for the emergency services in being able to respond quickly in keeping the teams on the ground fed and watered at large scale incidents. We look forward to working with you all again soon.”
