Tour De Fight BACC – a 1120km ride around Victoria

Tour de Fight BACC (Breast and Children’s Cancer) was founded in 2013 by Graham Weatherley and Dale Osborne after cancer tragically affected their family. It is a bike ride starting and finishing in Shepparton, and the goal is to raise much needed funds for those affected by cancer. The funds raised are distributed amongst these charities – Challenge, Olivia Newton-John Cancer & Wellness Centre, and the Children’s Cancer Foundation.
The ‘fleet’ of riders rode over 1100 kilometres in 7 days! The ride this year covered 1120 kilometres over seven days and involved some serious riding through the mountainous parts of Victoria.
The Riders with RRT LilydaleRRT teams from towns all over Victoria were privileged to support this worthy cause – many of our teams have been either directly or indirectly affected by cancer, and know the devastation it can bring as loved ones are made to suffer.
The riders started in Shepparton on Sunday 11th October and rode a circuit up and over Mt Hotham, up through Gippsland and back to Shepparton via Woodend and Heathcote.
Ready for another day on the road, after breakfast at WoodendRRT provided meals along the way at 6 destinations which was warmly received by the tired riders. The meals provided were as follows:
- Breakfast on the 12th at Bright
- Dinner on the 13th at Maffra
- Breakfast on the 14th at Maffra
- Breakfast on the 15th at Yarra Junction
- Breakfast on the 16th at Woodend
- Breakfast on the 17th at Heathcote
One of the organizers commented: ‘We had so much great support along the way. The support we had from The Rapid Relief Team was so fantastic. The food and all the people involved were just spot on’.
Tour de Fight BACC was a huge success, raising over $ 162,000 for cancer research. Organized by two individuals who have been impacted in their families with cancer, the tour had real meaning. RRT was pleased to support such a worthy cause and look forward to assisting next year.
