Saturday 12th March was an exciting day for any woman who had ever dreamt of flying a plane. Today was the day the Sunshine Coast Aero Club (SCAC) were hosting the ‘Fly it Forward’ day, a great initiative giving 100 women the experience of flying an aircraft under the guidance of a fully qualified flight instructor.

Careflight Bear!

As Careflight, the Australian aeromedical charity, was the charity of choice for this event, SCAC provided the flights free of charge, in turn raising money for Careflight Sunshine Coast with the $10 flight registration fee. Along with this there were hangar tours, stalls, an aviation fire rescue truck display, kid’s activities, face painting and the Careflight helicopter was able to be there for some of the day for people to view.

Planes and Helicopters for everyone’s interest!

Careflight contacted the Rapid Relief Team (RRT) and asked if they would be able to provide and serve a sausage sizzle. From 10am until shortly before 2pm, a number of RRT volunteers cooked and sold approx. 150 sausages with bread, bacon, onion, cheese and sauce with the option to buy a bottle of RRT water or soft drink.

The sausages were kindly donated by the owner of Mick’s Meats who is also a member of the SCAC and the soft drink was donated by the Aero Club themselves. All the money made by the sausage sizzle was given to the extremely worthy cause, the much appreciated Careflight. One of the organizers who contributed greatly in making this day happen, thanked the RRT saying that it was “so organized and wonderful.”

The Rapid Relief Team had many appreciative comments from the public, with one hungry aviation firefighter saying “you guys are legends!”

RRT would like to thank Careflight for including them in such an exciting venture and also the SCAC for hosting such an event.

The Rapid Relief Team

We wish Careflight all the best in all that they do in saving lives, speeding recovery and serving the community.
