The Whanganui community has come together in a remarkable show of support, raising $86,000 through this year’s Relay for Life event for the Cancer Society. The annual event brought together around 600 participants, including 95 cancer survivors, to celebrate hope, honour loved ones affected by cancer, and raise funds for vital Cancer Society services.

Relay for Life is a powerful community event that supports people impacted by cancer while funding programmes that provide care, education, prevention initiatives, and support for whānau across the region.

Rapid Relief Team (RRT) volunteers were honoured to support the event by preparing and serving a free lunch for participants throughout the day. By providing catering, RRT helped ensure that more of the money raised by participants could be directed towards Cancer Society services and programmes.

“The event was a great success, not only for raising significant funds but for bringing the community together for a great cause. We are so grateful for RRT being there to help make it as impactful as possible.”

RRT New Zealand General Manager Paul Simmons said, “Relay for Life brings together the Whanganui community to support those affected by cancer, and RRT is honoured to play a part in that to support the event for survivors and their supporters. These are members of our community who inspire us all with their courage and resilience.”
