Farmers Community Connect

Following the devastation of natural disasters, RRT strives to provide relief to farmers affected by it. The Farmers Community Connect events are a way to donate materials towards repairing their farm, while also providing access to support services and an opportunity to connect with others in similar circumstances.

After the catastrophe of Cyclone Gabrielle in February 2023, RRT hosted five Farmers Community Connect (FCC) events in the Hawke’s Bay region, and one in the Kaipara & Rodney region. These events were aimed at assisting farmers with fencing repairs; posts, battens, wire, permanent strainers, staples, and crimps made up the package of materials that each registered farmer received.

In early 2025, RRT hosted an FCC event in Hāwera, donating two 1-tonne bags of stock feed to drought-affected farmers to support their recovery efforts. Later that year, an FCC was held in Tapawera, supporting flood-affected Tasman farmers via donations of fencing materials, and then in December another in Eketāhuna for storm-affected Tararua farmers.

Also available at these events were local support services including mental wellbeing, rural financial counselling, and veterinary support. Farmers enjoyed RRT’s signature burger and barista coffee while connecting with their local community.

"While the fencing gear (and having it enthusiastically loaded) was deeply appreciated, the other thoughtful surprises, excellent food, outstanding coffee and absolute kindness of all involved made it an all round great day."
