RRT Joins Forces With Sophie’s Legacy Charity Event
On December 7th, RRT volunteers from Portsmouth joined forces with Sophie’s Legacy Charity at the annual 10km event. This fundraising run supported Sophie’s vision of encouraging people to stay active while they can. The event began at 10 a.m. at the Crofton Community Centre and concluded at 4 p.m.
Sophie’s Legacy is a charity created in memory of Sophie Fairall, who heartbreakingly passed away at just 10 years old in September 2021, one year after being diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare childhood cancer. Among Sophie’s many wishes, her primary goal was to support families in her community who find themselves in the hospital with their child, offering assistance tailored to each family’s unique situation. This year’s event held special significance, as Sophie had designed a series of three medals for the annual 10km events. This year’s medal, the final in the series, carried significant emotional meaning. The event was a success, with attendees running, walking, or biking to raise funds for the charity. Rapid Relief Team (RRT) Portsmouth volunteers kept busy throughout the day, grilling 1,000 bacon and egg rolls, while Sophie’s Legacy Charity provided refreshing drinks to keep participants hydrated and energised.
This event served as an excellent opportunity for everyone to unite in Sophie’s memory, embracing her message to “move while you can” while making a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need. RRT is honoured to have supported this impactful fundraiser and remains committed to assisting those who need it most.
