RRT supports the Emergency Services at the site of the Stonehaven derailment tragedy.
On Wednesday 12th August, a six-vehicle passenger train derailed after it struck a landslip around 1.4 miles north-east of Carmont, Aberdeenshire. Of the 9 people travelling on the train at the time of the accident, 3 people tragically lost their lives, the driver and the conductor of the train and one passenger. The rest of the passengers and crew were taken to hospital.
Our thoughts and prayers are very much with the families who have lost loved ones through this tragic incident.
The site of the incident was fairly remote, posing a challenge for the emergency response. Many of the crews had been working tirelessly for several hours when RRT Aberdeen was called in to support the Emergency Service response by providing them with refreshments.
Over the course of 4 days, the RRT Team provided 1300 meals, plus snacks and drinks for the emergency services and accident investigation personnel.
“I just wanted to pass on my thanks to you and your team who deployed to the tragic Rail Incident on Wednesday, I have had feedback from some of my commanders who were very complimentary about the RRT crew and how they supported operations. So thank you from me as the Duty Gold Commander.”

We would also like to thank Tesco, Asda, Marks & Spencer’s, Co-Op and Subway for their generous donations of food.
