RRT Doncaster Supports Shiloh Homeless Centre

RRT Doncaster was delighted to support the Shiloh Homeless centre again on Saturday 20th July, for the opening of their newly refurbished Peace Garden. The Shiloh Centre guests worked hard to get the Peace Garden looking full of life. The tranquil space now contains a beautiful selection of herbs, climbers, flowers and perennials. It was wonderful to visit the garden and to be able to support the team after their fantastic effort.
Steve Wylie, project manager for Shiloh commented, “We’re really pleased to have the support of RRT again for this event. It’s a joy to have them here providing a full range of food and refreshments, all delivered professionally and with good cheer. It also gives our hardworking kitchen volunteers a well-earned rest!
About Shiloh Homeless Centre
Everyone who is homeless or at risk of homelessness receives a warm welcome at Shiloh. The team works tirelessly to bring a wide range of services to their local community, including daily refreshments, clothing, accommodation and personal development initiatives.
Shiloh offers a safe place where every guest is accepted and supported throughout their stay at the centre. The team work alongside guests to help them to plan for and realise a better future. Their services include:
Advice & Support
Trained staff and volunteers are on hand to help tackle practical difficulties guests may be facing. This includes: help finding accommodation, getting registered with a doctor, on-site appointments with a local nurse, accessing benefits and legal advice, as well as offering support to tackle mental health, drug and alcohol issues.
Catering & Practical Support
Shiloh has a fully equipped commercial kitchen which serves a healthy hot breakfast and lunch. Guests can enjoy their meal in the spacious dining room which offers people the chance to socialise if they want to. There is also the opportunity to shower, pick up essential toiletries, use the laundry service or pick out some new clothes.
Shiloh have friendly trained staff and volunteers on hand to help people relax and make the most of the available services. Aside from providing direct practical support, this helps enormously in combating the sense of social isolation that homeless people can feel.
Employment & Skills
An important way to grow in confidence and self-esteem is to take steps towards finding work, whether paid or unpaid or undertaking a full-time education or training course. It enables people to make a positive contribution to their community and gives people a purpose in life. It also makes it less likely that they will become homeless again in the future. When guests are ready, Shiloh helps them move on to employment, education, training or voluntary work in the community.
Creative Activities
Guests at Shiloh can take part in fun and meaningful activities which help them learn, build their skills and confidence, and make new friends. This is part of helping people to move off the streets and breaking the cycle of homelessness.
We look forward to visiting Shiloh again soon.
