US – Be The Match Walk/Run Philadelphia Supported by RRT

Every three minutes, someone is diagnosed with a type of blood cancer such as leukemia. It can happen to anyone, at any time. Be The Match Foundation has made it their mission to provide a cure, such as a marrow or blood transplant to the victims of this disease. On April 2, 2016, Be The Match hosted a 5k and 1k Run / Walk Fundraising Event at the Philadelphia Navy Yard.
Running through the streets of Philadelphia. The cold, rainy morning didn’t faze the runners and walkers who had one thing as their goal – a cure for blood cancer. Nor did it daunt the 25 RRT volunteers, who had the privilege of assisting at the event.
The RRT Water Station Provided For The Runners. The RRT Tent Provided Some Shelter From The Rain and Cold. The RRT Volunteers were set in charge of a water stop along the course where they stood along the path and handed cups of cold water to the runners. A few of the RRT Volunteers were also stationed along the course and helped with marshalling the crowd down the correct paths. All volunteers offered encouragement and cheers to motivate the runners.
The Be The Match Platform. The benefits from this event help The Be The Match Foundation to continue to lead the fight to advance the science of transplants, support patients who live with blood cancer and empower people to give the greatest gift of all – the gift of life! For years Be The Match has helped patients overcome financial barriers to receiving a transplant, grown the registry to create more matches and funded life-saving research.
In all, it was a great day and RRT is looking forward to the next event they can assist at. The Event Coordinators were pleased with the work RRT had done and sent the following note of thanks.
“We absolutely love partnering with RRT and are SO thankful for your support in 2015 and now in 2016!!!” -Lisa Munson, Event Manager
