The Ethan Maull Foundation was set up by a young boy who was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer. Ethan received most of his treatment at the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham. Whilst in hospital, Ethan saw the devastating effects that cancer has on children and their families, with many having to travel long distances to receive the treatment at Nottingham. Of course, this imposes a huge burden on the families wishing to remain close and needing accommodation. There is only one house for families to stay at whilst their children are receiving their treatment, and that is Billy’s House. It is located close to the hospital, but unfortunately not all families are able to stay here, so often face sleeping in their cars or making the long journey daily, to be with their children.

Ethan’s wish was to help these families and other like them. He had a vision that he wanted to raise enough money to build another home where families could stay. It was from this vision that the ETHAN MAULL “UP YOURS TO CANCER” FOUNDATION was born

To date, the foundation has raised just over £100,000, they hope in two more years to have enough to fund another ‘Billy’s House’.

Since Ethan’s death in 2014, his parents have carried on his vision and have been fund-raising through many different methods and events, and on Saturday 11th July, over 200 runners gathered at Torksey, near Lincoln, to run 3K to raise money for the Ethan Maull Foundation.  Runners came expecting to get covered in paint!  There were a lot of children running in the event and also whole families, in some cases there were three generations in the same family running.

At the event the RRT were helping with car-parking, setting up of paint stations, throwing paint and water, directing runners and handing out water at the end of the race.  They even gave one of the youngest runners a lift to the finish line.

All 21 RRT members were kept very busy during the event as some of the other volunteers decided to run the 3K at the last minute!  Some were throwing colour at the first paint station and then had to dash to the last station to help out there before the runners got through.  The race involved running along some roadways so it was important to keep the children to the side of the road.  The race organiser said he was impressed with how professional the RRT were.
