On Saturday August 6th, members of the Rapid Relief Teams from London, Tillsonburg, and Woodstock prepared and served a meal to 80 residents of the Ronald McDonald House in London, Ontario.  The Ronald McDonald House is for families with children who are undergoing treatment at the Victoria Hospital.

The menu consisted of: Roast Beef with Gravy, Roasted Parmesan Ruby Potatoes, Buttered Beans, Brussel Slaw & Cranberry Salad, Rolls with Butter, Triple Chocolate Cake, and Coffee & Tea. Many of the families commented that they were very much looking forward to RRT’s scheduled return-trip on August 27th, to serve another meal!

The Rapid Relief Team arrived at the Ronald McDonald House at 2:00pm to start preparing the meal and everyone pitched in as there was a lot to be done. Once the meal was served and the kitchen was cleaned up to its original state, RRT finished up at 8:00pm.

A few of the RRT members had the chance to interact with some of the children with illnesses, such as the 4-year-old boy shown in the photo below, who is fighting cancer.

The managers at the Ronald McDonald House were thrilled with the interaction and joy the RRT members brought to the little ones staying in the house. They said the food was amazing, but the atmosphere was very different than normal. They mentioned that they hadn’t seen many of the families staying in the house quite this happy and free before. RRT very much enjoyed doing what they love: showing compassion and care to our communities.
