NZ – RRT helps make Southland’s Hug a Rig Day a Success!

The Hug a Rig Day, now in its seventh year, is a day out for the families of children and adults with special needs and life-long medical conditions. The main event drawcard is a 25 minute round trip through the Gore District in a Big Rig or Classic Car, which as one participant said, is looked forward to all year by many children. The Southland Hug a Rig Day is the brainchild of Ian & Dianne Elstob, who puts tireless hours every year into this event.

Classic Cars, Trucks and Everything In Between were available for people to ride in!

There are many selfless volunteers who contribute to this event’s success. Many drivers donate their time to polish their gleaming rides and take the excited young (and not so young) on their ride of the year. The Plymouth Brethren Rapid Relief Team helped reduce the burden on the organisers’ shoulders this year, by committing to provide food and refreshments for all the volunteers and participants at this event.

A tasty meal was served to all attendees.

With participants filing in the gate as soon as they were opened at 12.00pm, the RRT Team were kept busy cooking delicious burgers and sausages right through until the end of the day. With over 200 people fed, the RRT Burger Team was in high demand and received very appreciative feedback.

Overall the Gore Hug a Rig Day was a huge success with a total of 27 trucks and a good number of classic cars on the circuit. The smiles on the faces of the participants emphasized to organizers and volunteers just how special this day was. With the event’s growing popularity, the organizers have already been sure to lock in the RRT’s services for next year.
