Wintringham Lionsville comprises 60 one bedroom self-contained apartments situated in Williamstown, Melbourne. For 25 years, the housing at Lionsville has provided quality accommodation and a vibrant community for local elderly people in need. Wintringham Specialist Aged Care is a not-for-profit welfare organisation created to address the problem of elderly homelessness. As well as providing residences for at-risk elderly people, the Wintringham mission is to represent and fight for the rights of poor and homeless to achieve equality and social justice. On their website they state that they will continue to be an international leader by providing an environment where individuality is respected and honoured and where all receive their rightful entitlement to support and care in a place they can call home.

The party to celebrate this 25 year milestone was a hit with much reminiscing about the Lionsville journey to this point and the expectation of what’s ahead.  The company was established in 1989, in response to the frustration of watching elderly men and women die in homeless shelters. In the 25 years since it’s inauguration, many people have finished their lives in comfort and receiving the care they deserve.

Supporting Wintringham Lionsville’s passion for social justice for the elderly, RRT Melbourne were only too happy to assist them on the day of their celebration. An enthusiastic RRT team served a BBQ lunch to approximately 40 of the residents, and some staff, as part of the birthday celebrations.

The team are really encouraged with the positive feedback received “thanks for the wonderful, yummy lunch yesterday. The residents really enjoyed the day and it was a really professional set up that you guys had – perfect!”
