The Weekend to End Women’s Cancers™ is a walk to raise money for cancer research around the world. The Perth event was held to raise funds for the benefit of the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research, to advance its ground breaking cancer research.

A 2 day event was held on the weekend of the 28-29th of March 2015. The walk consisted of a 30km walk each day. Each day was a different scenic route around Perth starting and ending in McCallum Park where the overnight camp was set up. Each walker pledged to fundraise a minimum of $2000 each, which culminated in a huge 1.8 million dollar donation to the Harry Perkins institute.

Cheering the participants on….

RRT were privileged to be involved in 4 main tasks to assist in ensuring this event was successful. 6 members arrived at 9am Friday to work with the Cancer Council to mark out the route for the Saturday walk. 10 more members assisted with setting up the camp grounds for the participants who would be staying there overnight. On Saturday 12 RRT members had an early start, arriving at 5am to direct vehicle traffic and parking. After the Saturday walk was finished, the routes had to be marked out for the Sunday walk, and take down the original markers. Then at 11.30am RRT had another 8 members arrive to hand out refreshing cold water to every weary walker as they crossed the finish line.

The Water Bottles were much appreciated

RRT would like to thank the staff at Weekend to End Women’s Cancer for this opportunity to help at this event and support such a worthy cause. A massive congratulation to all the walkers for their efforts and the money they raised to help end women’s cancer!
