Very Special Kids is a charity based in Malvern, Victoria. The charity cares for children with life threatening conditions. Every year more than 800 families across Victoria who have a child with life threatening conditions depend upon the free-of-charge family support, counselling, networking and specialist care offered by Very Special Kids. Very Special Kids also has the only children’s hospice in Victoria, offering access to planned and emergency respite, as well as end-of-life care. The hospice provides 24-hour specialist nursing care in a warm and welcoming environment.

Very Special Kids relies upon community support and generosity to provide the $6.5 million required each year to keep this fantastic organisation working.  To this end a calendar of fundraising events is arranged and the VSK Treadmill event is but one of these. The Treadmill Event is held to raise money for resources to improve the lives of children in 24 hour care.  1,118 participants, including celebrities, AFL players, politicians, and people who have personal reasons for supporting the cause of Very Special Kids, joined forces to keep 32 treadmills in continuous motion for 24 hours from 22nd till 23rd May 2015.

This incredible effort resulted in more than $610,000 being raised for this very worthy cause.

The RRT was very proud to support this event. RRT Volunteers commenced sandwich making at 5:00am, delivering gourmet sandwiches for lunch and then dinner for participating teams on 22nd May.  The RRT enjoyed the chance to practically support the Very Special Kids project.  The service that they provide to families suffering the pressure of seriously unwell children is very valued.  We are looking forward to assisting at the Very Special Kids Piggy Bank event in September.

See you there!!
