As Hobart basked in a perfect spring day, St Giles hosted their most successful ever, the annual Dick Smith “Walk with Me” event.  St Giles is a dynamic, multi-faceted organization that supports people with a range of needs, including persons with developmental delays and disabilities.

While it is only a short walk for some; Walk with Me is a real challenge for others.  It is a great opportunity to support and celebrate the diversity within our community, with the main focus being to raise awareness and celebrate inclusion of people with disabilities – as well as raising much needed funds for the charity partners.

RRT continued our successful relationship with St Giles, being once again engaged to support this event.  18 RRT volunteers prepared, cooked and served over 300 meals including hamburgers, sausages, fruit salad, tea, coffee and hot chocolate.  RRT also manned water stations along the route, donating and distributing over 350 bottles of water to sustain the thirsty participants, and provided a general helping hand wherever required.

Overall the day was a wonderful success with participation levels at a record high, with many organizations and individuals supporting the event in a proactive way.  Dick Smith was the event’s major sponsor, and a number of local entertainment groups created a fantastic atmosphere. Melbourne FC defender Colin Garland was on hand and the Army Drum Band led the procession to a lively beat from the Parliament House lawns.

RRT would like to thank St Giles for including us, and we look forward to working with you again soon!
