AU RRT – Supports Western Sydney Homeless Connect Event

During Homelessness Week, the Rapid Relief Team has been in communities across Australia delivering warm winter meals to the homeless and disadvantaged.
From Sydney to Armidale, Brisbane to Gunnedah – the Rapid Relief Team was out in force.
One of the larger events was Western Sydney Homeless Connect (WSHC) in Parramatta’s Centenary Square on Monday 5 August.
RRT catered for around 1500 people, with over 500 cups of coffee served alongside 1100 burgers and 150 bacon and egg rolls.
Western Sydney Homeless Connect helps vulnerable people experiencing life’s struggles by connecting them with services that provide valuable support in a one-stop-shop environment.
There were services available for those who need it most, from housing to legal, youth to wellbeing – including health checks and identification checks to dental, podiatry, haircuts and much more.
They’re also changing the conversation on what homelessness looks like in Australia.
Homelessness is not just people sleeping rough – it includes the invisible homeless – people who are couch surfing, in refuges, overcrowded housing or sleeping in cars.
In the leadup to the annual event, RRT assisted WSHC in raising awareness on social media.
We’re pleased to report that their social media following grew substantially over eight weeks.
There is an ongoing commitment to support WSHC with their monthly hub events which are smaller versions of their annual event to provide ongoing support for those in need across Western Sydney.
These events are committed to breaking the cycle of disadvantage, and RRT is proud to play a role.
