More than two dozen volunteers from the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church’s charitable arm, the Rapid Relief Team, joined with the Church’s most senior leader Mr Bruce Hales to man BBQ’s to cook sausages and burgers to raise funds for the Starlight Children’s Foundation’s National Starlight Day.

RRT National Co-ordinator, Mr Daniel Alderton, said Mr Hales’ attendance reflected his dedication to helping others and being engaged in raising funds for charitable activities.

Mr Hales said that he “very much enjoyed the opportunity to participate in the fundraising effort for such a worthy cause and is looking forward to attending and being active in further events in the future”.

The RRT volunteers arrived at Wynyard Park 5.30am and were serving bacon and egg rolls within an hour, right through to 10:00am. The team then commenced preparing the lunch menu; hamburgers or sausage sandwiches, which were served up until 3pm.

Over 1,800 meals were served to office workers, business people, construction workers, emergency services, and tourists alike, with great feedback on the food.

The Starlight Children’s Foundation took care of the money collection for the food, and all provisions and equipment for the day were supplied free by the RRT.
