Beyond the Square is Parramatta Riverside Theatre’s dedicated performing arts program for people with a disability. Riverside Theatres Parramatta is the only mainstream theatre company with a performing arts program in Australia. This program focuses solely on the development of opportunities for people with disability and is funded by Parramatta City Council and ArtsNSW.

Beyond the Square’s annual end of year performance usually consists of a major performance followed by lunch and karaoke. On Wednesday 25th of November 2015, Riverside Theatres Parramatta hosted its annual Beyond the Square performance, and once again RRT were privileged to assist Beyond the Square with this worthy event by providing a hot lunch to all performers, staff, carers and spectators after the performance.

At approx. 12 pm, after the performance had finished, performers, staff and carers entered the courtyard for a hearty meal of hot dog rolls and salad, accompanied with bottled water and soft drinks, however the show didn’t end there. Whilst everyone was having lunch, a band played some songs and several disabled people showed off their unique talent at karaoke.

RRT finished the day after providing exactly 350 individual meals! RRT considers it a great privilege to be included in this great event, supporting and encouraging those with a disability, and looks forward to being part of this in the future!
