Volunteers Serve Hot Meals for Australian Water Rescue Challenge

Rapid Relief Team (RRT) volunteers provided meals and refreshments to participants at the Australian Rescue Boat Challenge on 5 September, helping keep rescue crews fuelled throughout a day of intense competition and skills testing.

The Australian Rescue Boat Challenge brought together rescue boat operators from across Australasia for a series of practical challenges designed to test boat handling, operational capability, teamwork and leadership.

The event provided an opportunity for rescue crews and organisations to assess their capabilities in a competitive environment, while building relationships and sharing knowledge across the rescue sector.

RRT volunteers from Penrith supported the event by serving 100 bacon and egg rolls for breakfast and 160 classic beef burgers throughout the day.

Penrith Team Leader Brian Lee said RRT was pleased to support an event that showcases the dedication and professionalism of rescue crews.

“Rapid Relief Team is proud to support the Australian Rescue Boat Challenge and the volunteers and organisations that play such an important role in keeping communities safe,” Mr Lee said.

“The challenge provides a valuable opportunity for crews to test their skills, learn from one another and strengthen relationships across the rescue sector.

“By providing meals and refreshments on site, our volunteers helped ensure participants and event crews could stay focused and energised throughout the day.”

As the charitable arm of the Plymouth Brethren values, RRT was established in 2013 to assist emergency services in times of disaster and crisis by providing meals and other support. RRT has expanded to more than 16,500 volunteers and provides support to the community through charitable donations and events.
