Rapid Relief Team Answers Call to Support Firefighters at Blaze in Bundaberg

Rapid Relief Team (RRT) volunteers from Bundaberg have been on the ground ensuring firefighters were well-fed and fuelled as they battled a bushfire at Doughboy.

Local Team Leader Jon Bowder said RRT responded to a request from the Tirroan Rural Fire Brigade Depot to provide catering support over the weekend.

“Since early Monday, RRT volunteers have been providing lunches, dinners and snack packs for fire crews at Doughboy,” said Jon.

“Across the three days, we have provided about 260 meals, making sure the firies were looked after while they were hard at work.

“We are coming into the hotter months now, which means RRT will be standing by, ready to answer any call-up to assist our frontline responders with food and refreshments while they keep our communities safe.”

The fire near Gin Gin is now under control, with crews undertaking backburning to help protect nearby properties.

Local crews from the Rural Fire Service Queensland (RFSQ) and Queensland Fire and Rescue were joined by strike teams from the Fraser Coast, Sunshine Coast and South Burnett.

RRT provided a variety of meals, including sausage sandwiches, burgers, nachos and meatball subs.

As the charitable arm of the Plymouth Brethren values, RRT supports frontline workers and emergency services by providing food, donations and other resources, as well as hosting events for the community.

Established in 2013 to assist emergency services in times of disaster and crisis by providing meals and other support, it has expanded to more than 16,500 volunteers and provides support to the community through charitable donations and events.
