Volunteers Provide 1,500 Free Meals for Homelessness Charity Walk

RRT has supported the annual Walk a Mile in My Boots charity event by serving up 1,500 BBQ breakfasts to warm up crowds of walkers at Victoria Park in Adelaide.

The event is a community walk to stand in solidarity with people experiencing homelessness and to raise funds for Hutt Street Centre, which helps people experiencing or at risk of homelessness to rebuild their lives.

Local Team Leader Matt Gooden said 32 RRT volunteers from Adelaide and Mt Barker provided hot breakfast rolls following the event, which takes place during National Homelessness Week.

“RRT was delighted to provide hot drinks and freshly cooked bacon and egg rolls served with a smile for those who took part in Walk a Mile in My Boots,” Mr Gooden said.

“The Hutt Street Centre does incredibly important work for the community, and it was great to be able to support their cause.”

Last year, Hutt Street Centre served more than 46,000 meals, provided more than 14,000 showers and loads of washing, and had more than 42,000 visits to its wellbeing centre.

As the charitable arm of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church, RRT supports frontline workers and emergency services by providing food, donations and other resources, as well as hosting events for the community. These efforts reflect the Plymouth Brethren beliefs, which guide members to provide practical care and support to communities in need.

Established in 2013 to assist emergency services in times of disaster and crisis by providing meals and other support, it’s expanded to more than 16,500 volunteers and provides support to the community through charitable donations and events.
