A wonderful day was had by all! But, it didn’t start out that way.  It was cold and gray and windy and hard to find a spot to keep warm even as everyone hustled around setting up tables, chairs, food, the DJ stage, dance floor, and face painting booth. As all the persons participating in the Walk with Us to Cure Lupus started to arrive, the sun came out. The day brightened from there. We had the colors presented by the Color Guard and then The National Anthem sung.  The wind picked up as the participants began the exercises before the walk.

Almost Ready to Cut the Purple Ribbon

Then it was off to the starting line and once the ribbon was cut the walk began! The walk was about one and one-half miles in total and one of the participants named Amber who was there last year looked much better as her doctor had told her that she would not be able to walk the whole way at last year’s event and she proved him wrong! She said she was feeling much better this year.

After the walk, there was a dance-a-thon! The DJ played music and handed out prizes to the best dancers. Soon the day was done, everyone left, happy and well fed and watered.

The RRT volunteers

Another beautiful day and proof that there are still people who care about others in this world.  As we were cleaning up, one of the volunteers was heard to say, ” if someone does not believe in God, I feel sorry for them because God sent you guys to us!”
