Once again RRT springs into action but this time in Perth, UK…!

RRT set up within the cordon

On Sunday evening, 23rd February there was a rescue operation in the centre of Perth by the River Tay. Eight fire and rescue tenders along with five other emergency forces raced to the scene from across Tayside. Teams from RNLI, the Coast Guards and the RAF joined the Fire, Police and Ambulance services in the operation forming an incredible array of specialised teams for every eventuality.

Specialists discuss whilst taking a break

When RRT offered their services in providing refreshments to maintain their strength and morale during the rescue operation, the offer was very gratefully received. A small team of ten RRT members set up a marquee providing Tea, Coffee, Cold Drinks, Sausage Rolls, crisps and Chocolate Biscuits.

RRT getting busier

For some rescue workers it was an evening of standing in the cold, waiting for further instructions, whilst others were in the fast flowing, freezing cold and dangerous river, trying to carry out their duties in the darkness.

Perth RRT very much appreciated the donations of food from local supermarkets that topped up the provisions of food as the evening continued on.

Variety of rescue teams gather

Around 21:30 the Police Sergeant came and told the RRT Team Leader that as they had not been successful they would be standing down the operation in the next half hour and resuming the next day. He thanked the RRT team saying that he very much appreciated the fantastic support.

The Commanding Fire Officer for the operation also came personally to thank the RRT team for their efforts and said he would appreciate help at other major incidents in the future.

While the weary and cold rescue workers came back from their various positions on the dark river banks, to their command units, RRT continued to serve well deserved and very much welcomed refreshments.

A steady flow of grateful workers are served

Every member of the Perth RRT team involved expressed their own sense of gratitude for the privilege of servicing such a fantastic team of rescue workers!

An appreciative rescue team
