The grassfire tore through hectares of pasture in January, and sadly livestock was also lost, but local firefighters raced against the clock to contain the spread amid difficult weather conditions.

Members from the RRT in Hamilton, Mt Gambier and Warrnambool were able to support, dishing up 1908 hot meals and 60 Frontline Snack Packs for the emergency workers on site.

RRT Local Team Leader for Hamilton, Jason Thomas, said they were pleased RRT could offer some support, if only in a small way.

“The CFA volunteers did an incredible job, working day and night to contain the fire,” Jason said.

“These grassfires just show the risk we have at the moment with the hot weather and plenty dry fuel and the need to be extra vigilant.”

RRT supports hundreds of flood, fire and drought rescue efforts each year, and also assists the healthcare system, vulnerable people and those in need with food relief other assistance where required.
