A great day fundraising in Dargaville!! Concerned citizens in the Dargaville area had organised a fundraising day for those seriously affected by Cyclone Winston which made landfall on Fiji and the smaller surrounding Islands in early March 2016.

Along with the Dargaville RRT team preparing and selling hamburgers, sausages and hot chips for those present, there were raffles with spot prizes, cake stalls and other donated goods for sale.

Entertainment for the crowd consisted of kapahaka, ukulele players, the Dargaville local brass band and a lively demonstration from the local Zumba enthusiasts!

Locals provided entertainment during the day

Though it was a fun and enjoyable day for all who attended, it was in the forefront of everyone’s thoughts of the thousands of people (approx. 51000) in Fiji and smaller islands whose homes and lives had been destroyed by Cyclone Winston, the worst recorded storm in the southern hemisphere, had torn across the South Pacific leaving 42 dead and devastating the islands.

The Dargaville Fijian Cyclone fundraising drive in Dargaville along with the local RRT team raised a total of $2500 in funds and many aid items to be sent to the many homeless currently in temporary shelter camps.

The team! Our thoughts and prayers are with them all!
