RRT Whangarei steps forward to support ‘I have a Dream’
‘I have a dream’ rings in my ears as the famous words of Martin Luther King Jnr during the Civil rights protest in 1963!
A charitable trust in Whangarei, ‘I have a dream’ helps to bring these words to life with young people wanting to achieve academic and life success. They also support several disadvantaged and less fortunate children.
Their services provide mentoring, tutoring, life coaching and support to their Dreamers. They instill values of higher education, career aspirations and life success, and ensure every child has the resources, opportunities, and networks they need to succeed.
Like RRT, this charity is focused on helping kiwi kids to transform their lives, futures, and communities.
The Twelfth of February was a very memorable day for the Whangarei RRT volunteers who participated in an annual community event alongside I have a Dream Charitable Trust.
The event was held at Tikipunga Domain in the heart of Whangarei and was a get-together for all the children, families and helpers involved in the organisation to show a hand of appreciation and support to the great work they do.
A family day out on a beautiful summer’s day doesn’t go without a great BBQ lunch, and that’s exactly what 16 Whangarei RRT volunteers provided!
RRT’s specialised BBQ catering trailer arrived fully laden, marquees were erected, BBQ fired up and plenty of smiling faces ready to feed between 800 and 1000 attendees – a fabulous turn out for such a worthy cause!
The menu was of course a kiwi favorite – hearty beef burger with fresh salads and choice of sauces including the good old ketchup! 650 water bottles were also provided to attendees to help combat the heat of the day.
RRT team leader said the day was much enjoyed by the volunteers and RRT appreciated the opportunity to serve at the event. “It was a pleasure to see the smiles of the faces of attendees as they received their meal.”
Trust Manager Leslie McCardie wrote, “Thank you and the team for assisting with the community event! Once again, your team were fabulous, and we all really appreciated their help. The feedback from the community was excellent so all in all a great night out for the kids and parents.”
We look forward to next year and supporting ‘I have a Dream’ at this event again.
