The Big Harrogate Sleepout! RRT Supports The Homeless Project
In 2022, an estimated 274,000 people in the UK were experiencing homelessness, including those in temporary accommodation. This statistic highlights the ongoing challenge our society faces and underscores the vital work being done by organisations like the Harrogate Homeless Project.
The Harrogate Homeless Project offers vital support to individuals experiencing homelessness, providing a safe environment to help them regain confidence and work toward independent living. The project includes several critical services: a Move-On Accommodation that provides extended support for those who still need to be ready to live independently, a Hotstel on Bower Street, which is the only direct access hostel in the Harrogate district, accommodating 16 individuals in single The Second Night Out service also offers five emergency bunk beds for those in immediate need. At the same time, the Springboard Day Centre provides meals, shower and laundry facilities, workshops, and access to psychotherapy and GP services, fostering a holistic approach to recovery and well-being.
The Harrogate Homeless Project organised ‘The Big Harrogate Sleepout’ from October 3rd to 4th to address homelessness in the community. Kicking off at 7 PM, the event featured a quiz and raffle. The sponsorship raised crucial funds for their essential services ahead of the busy winter season.
This morning, October 4th, local Rapid Relief Team (RRT) volunteers supported the Harrogate Homeless Project by serving approximately 50 bacon rolls to attendees. The event brought together managing directors, owners, and teams from several companies, including Harrogate Spring Water and Belzona. RRT was proud to be part of this initiative, which focused on tackling homelessness while allowing colleagues, friends, and local businesses to reconnect.
Event organiser Hadyn expressed her gratitude, saying, ‘you and your team are superstars! We were all so impressed by your happy smiling presence and amazing service. What an incredible organisation. We are so grateful for your support and hope to see you again next year if not before!”
With open arms, RRT volunteers treat every person with respect, irrespective of their faith, background or circumstance.
