RRT’s Largest Operation Supporting Police Scotland
RRT has completed its largest-ever operation, supporting Police Scotland during the visit of US President. Over the course of ten days, RRT volunteers served more than 44,000 hot meals and welfare packs to over 6,000 police officers deployed across Scotland—an extraordinary feat.
From 21st to 30th July, RRT mobilised over 700 volunteers across six key locations in Aberdeenshire, Ayrshire, Edinburgh, and Glasgow. Working in three shifts around the clock, these volunteers cooked and served 18,693 hot meals, ensuring officers had the nourishment and energy to carry out their duties during one of the largest police operations in Scottish history.
In addition to hot meals, RRT distributed 26,000 welfare packs at six additional locations, including Dalmarnock Police Station and Queen Margaret Academy. These packs were thoughtfully curated with essentials like protein bars, water bottles, suncream sachets, fruit, and chocolate—small comforts that made a big difference to officers working long hours in demanding conditions.
The scale of the operation was unprecedented. Police Scotland Assistant Chief Constable Emma Bond described it as “one of the largest operations that we have planned in the history of Police Scotland.” The visit, which included meetings with Prime Minister Keir Starmer and First Minister John Swinney, required a massive mobilisation of resources to ensure public safety amid demonstrations and high-level engagements.
One senior officer involved in the operation praised RRT’s contribution, saying:
“Our operation at Menie would not have been as successful as it was without the support of RRT. The staff and volunteers went above and beyond to look after us and provided an incredible service.”
Funded entirely by the charity, RRT’s operation represented an investment of over £250,000—a testament to the organisation’s deep-rooted values and its mission to serve communities in times of need. This wasn’t just about logistics; it was about putting compassion into action.
Ross Norman, RRT UK Operations Manager, reflected on the experience:
“We were absolutely honoured to be asked by Police Scotland to assist during this large-scale operation. I’m incredibly proud of every single one of our volunteers who went above and beyond to support police officers working long hours to keep Scotland’s communities safe.”
“This is what the RRT is all about – putting compassion into action wherever it’s needed most. It was a privilege for us to stand alongside Police Scotland during this operation and play our part in supporting those who work so hard to protect the public.”
This operation wasn’t just RRT’s largest—it was a defining moment that underscored the power of community, the importance of service, and the impact of kindness. As Scotland welcomed a world leader, RRT quietly ensured that those protecting the public were cared for, nourished, and appreciated.
