RRT Supports Fire & Rescue with Meals During Training

Posted: November 8, 2024

On November 5th, local emergency services participated in a mass decontamination exercise. Rapid Relief Team (RRT) Volunteers in Middlesbrough partnered with County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service for their MDU Tactical Exercise. RRT served 240 burger meals to the staff and participants during the event, providing support throughout the exercise and assisting the team as they completed their tactical training.

County Durham and Darlington Fire Authority deliver fire and rescue services across the two unitary authority areas of County Durham and the borough of Darlington, serving a population of over 620,000 people across nearly 2,460 square kilometres. They provide 24-hour fire cover every day of the year. In addition to responding to emergencies, County Durham and Darlington Fire & Rescue Service engage in various activities to enhance community safety and wellbeing, focusing on preventing fires and offering vital support at home and in the workplace.

The Service organised an MDU Tactical Exercise training to prepare staff for real-life situations. The training was designed to simulate emergencies that require coordination among multiple emergency services. Participants practised their responses to improve coordination, communication, and efficiency in managing emergency operations.

The event was a great success, attracting enthusiastic emergency service staff. Throughout the day, RRT volunteers kept busy grilling burgers and serving fresh refreshments, including hot tea and coffee. Staff and volunteers enjoyed conversations over their meals and drinks. RRT was honoured to support County Durham and Darlington Fire & Rescue Service during their MDU Tactical Exercise, showing appreciation for their hard work and dedication to keeping the community safe. It was a moment of giving back, offering kindness and support to those who risk their lives on the front lines.
