How RRT Supported Fire Station Open Days Across the UK This July

Posted: August 4, 2026

July has been a month in which the dedication of the fire service has felt particularly visible. While crews across the UK have responded to some of the most significant wildfire incidents in recent memory, fire stations up and down the country also opened their doors to the public, giving communities the chance to come closer to those who protect them every day.

RRT teams were honoured to support eight fire station open days throughout the month, joining fire services from Essex to Scotland to help welcome families and members of the public to events designed to build awareness, raise funds and celebrate the work of local firefighters.

From Bishops Stortford to Dundee, volunteers provided meals and refreshments throughout each event, helping to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere and allowing fire stations to focus on connecting with the communities they serve.

One of the highlights of the month was the annual Emergency Services Open Day at the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service station in Perth on 18 July. With nine emergency service sectors represented and an estimated 2,000 members of the public coming through the gates, the day was a powerful celebration of community spirit and the breadth of support that exists behind the frontline. Eleven RRT volunteers served 650 meals throughout the event, ensuring everyone in attendance felt cared for throughout the day.

RRT also supported a Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service community awareness day at Northwich Fire Station on 11 July, with five volunteers serving approximately 300 meals to those attending. Later in the month, eleven volunteers supported the Painshill Fire Station Open Day in Sutton on 25 July, providing refreshments for members of the public, firefighters and event staff, serving around 220 meals across the day.

"Fire station open days are a really important moment for local communities. They give people the chance to meet the crews who show up for them during some of the most difficult moments in their lives, and to understand a little more about what that work involves. This July has been a particularly significant month for the fire service, and it felt right to be alongside them not just when responding to incidents, but at events like these, where the relationship between firefighters and the communities they protect is front and centre. We're grateful to every fire service that welcomed our volunteers, and to the teams who gave up their time to be there."

Ross Norman

UK Head of Operations

Across all eight events, the open days offered a valuable opportunity for communities to learn about the vital work fire services carry out and for firefighters to feel the appreciation of the people around them. RRT were glad to play a part in helping each event run well and to stand alongside the fire service at such a significant time of year.

The Rapid Relief Team is made up of volunteers from the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church, who have supported emergency services across the UK for over a decade. From planned community events to reactive responses, RRT volunteers are committed to offering practical support to those working on the frontline, helping to strengthen the bond between emergency services and the communities they protect.
