Charity Feeds 200 at Major Trauma Training Exercise in Brighton

Posted: July 30, 2026

When serious incidents unfold, the teams that respond need to be ready. Not just trained, but instinctively prepared and able to act with speed and precision under enormous pressure. Keeping those teams sharp, prepared and ready is the work of training exercises — and on 16 and 17 July, charity the Rapid Relief Team (RRT) was there to make sure the people delivering it had everything they needed.

The course, hosted by the Emergency Training Department at Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, brought together clinicians and emergency service personnel for two days of intensive, scenario-based major trauma training. The programme is designed to sharpen the skills of those who respond when patients arrive in their most critical condition — building the instincts and confidence that only come from repeated, realistic practice.

Across both days, around 100 professionals gave their full focus to exercises that mirror some of the difficult situations they face in clinical practice. RRT volunteers supported them throughout, providing coffee and cake during the mid-morning break and a hot gourmet burger meal at lunchtime, serving approximately 200 meals in total across the two days. A small gesture, but one that meant participants could give their complete attention to the training rather than the practicalities around it.

“Major trauma training exercises like this are essential, they prepare clinicians and emergency responders to act quickly and confidently when lives are on the line. The dedication shown by everyone taking part was clear from the moment we arrived. We were glad to support the Royal Sussex County Hospital in delivering this course and honoured to play even a small part in keeping participants fuelled and ready. It's a privilege to support those who dedicate themselves to saving lives."
