Hundreds Walk Through the Night for St Giles Hospice Supported by RRT Volunteers

Posted: June 30, 2026

Hundreds of walkers taking part in St Giles Hospice’s Light the Night event in Lichfield were supported throughout the evening by charity the Rapid Relief Team (RRT), who provided hot food and refreshments to keep participants going as they raised funds for the hospice’s ongoing care for local people and their families.

St Giles Hospice provides individually-tailored, free-of-charge care to local people living with a terminal illness, and support for their loved ones, both at the hospice and in patients’ own homes across the community. Light the Night was organised to raise vital funds to allow this care to continue reaching those who need it most.

More than 500 people took part in the 8km route through Lichfield, with many taking on the challenge in memory of loved ones who had been cared for by the hospice. The evening combined the walk with live music and entertainment, creating what organisers described as a memorable night for the local community.

20 RRT volunteers served over 600 meals throughout the night, providing practical support to keep participants fuelled as they completed the route, while also handing out water bottles to walkers along the way.

“It was a brilliant night, and a privilege for our team to be part of it. Seeing so many people walking in memory of loved ones reminded us exactly why we were there. We were also pleased to welcome a few new faces to the team for this event, and it was great to see them get stuck in alongside more experienced volunteers. Events like this are exactly why we do what we do, and we’re delighted to have played a small part in supporting St Giles Hospice and everyone who took part.”
