RRT Worcester Supports Exercise Sabre on Severn Valley Railway
Exercise Sabre, organised by Network Rail, brought together emergency services and partner agencies along the Severn Valley Railway for a full‑scale resilience training day. The scenario centred on a simulated train crash involving a new‑generation hydrogen‑powered train, offering teams the opportunity to practise responding to an incident involving emerging rail technology.
Multiple agencies including fire, ambulance, police, Network Rail teams, and rail staff worked side‑by‑side through intensive scenarios designed to test coordination and communication under pressure. These complex exercises are vital to strengthening real‑world readiness, ensuring frontline teams can respond swiftly and effectively when it matters most.
The dedication, teamwork, and professionalism shown throughout the day reflected the commitment each organisation brings to protecting the public and improving safety across the rail network.
RRT Worcester supported the operation by serving 280 personnel, providing bacon rolls for breakfast and burger meals for lunch to keep crews fuelled throughout the exercise.
“It was a privilege to support the teams as they undertook vital training. Their teamwork was inspiring, and we were glad to offer a warm meal as they focused on building essential skills for real emergencies.”
