Teens Unite Against Cancer: The Summer Activity Stay
On July 29th, local volunteers from Rapid Relief supported Teens Unite during their event by sizzling up 30 sausage meals, including vegan options, for 25 young people and volunteers on the event’s first day.
The Summer Activity Stay provided an opportunity for teenagers dealing with cancer to gather and enjoy a four-day getaway from home. In the UK, approximately 2,555 new cases of cancer are diagnosed in teenagers and young adults annually. Teens Unite offers essential social, emotional and physical support to individuals aged 13-24 during their recovery. By connecting with peers who can relate to their experiences, they can maintain their sense of identity beyond being cancer patients.
The event featured a variety of engaging activities, such as art workshops, rock climbing, karaoke, and an Apprentice-style challenge. This challenge aimed to teach the teens entrepreneurial skills as they worked with expert mentors to develop a new product.
This event was significant as it offered a chance to overcome physical and mental challenges, interact with peers facing similar struggles, combat feelings of isolation and loneliness, and regain independence.
The event featured various engaging activities designed to foster a sense of belonging and resilience. Workshops focused on mental health awareness, life skills, and personal development, providing the teens with valuable tools to navigate their challenges. Rapid Relief Team was proud to support this impactful event, demonstrating to the teens that they are not alone and are part of a supportive community.
