On a bitterly cold Halloween morning, 31st October 2015, walkers, runners, and volunteers assembled for the inaugural Diebold Family Cancer Center Walk & Run Event in southern Connecticut. This fundraising event helps to support the programs and services that the New Milford Hospital’s Diebold Family Cancer Center offers to their patients.

The Opening Ceremony.

The New Milford Hospital Diebold Family Cancer Center has been providing extraordinary cancer care for over 16 years. From cancer screening and prevention, to diagnosis, treatment, education and support, the patients and their families depend upon the programs and services that they have to offer.

Nearly 700 people came out to show their support and have a fantastic but freezing time on the day. All were in good spirits as goblins, princesses, superheroes, cavemen and more stretched their limbs and prepared for the 5K run and 3K walk.

RRT members from around Connecticut came to assist at the event. This included helping with the initial setting up of the tents and signs and then as the cars began to arrive, a few of the volunteers went to assist with parking. During the walk / run, the volunteers handed out cold water bottles and at the end of the event, they assisted with the tear down and clean up.

This event raised a staggering amount – more than $44,000 to help support the New Milford Hospital’s Diebold Family Cancer Center. The RRT Volunteers were very thankful for the opportunity to assist at such a successful event and look forward to helping at the next event as well.
