UK – Marie Curie ‘Walk To Remember’ in Royal Sandringham

Sandringham, the much-loved country retreat of Her Majesty, The Queen, has again this year hosted one of Marie Curie’s annual ‘Walk to Remember’ events.Over 260 sponsored participants walked 10km through the 24 hectares of stunning gardens, and onwards through the picturesque woodlands, nestled on Sandringham’s 8,000-hectare Estate.

Marie Curie provide care and support for more than 40,000 people living with a terminal illness and their families in the UK each year, and rely on these fundraising events to help them continue their care.
Many of those participating were wearing names of loved ones affected by cancer, and at least one member of the Kings Lynn RRT has in the past had a close relative supported by Marie Curie.
Those participating included very young ones to older ones, all eager to support the worthy cause.

The walk was started following vigorous warm ups and a count down. A Marie Curie nurse cut the ribbon, and the walkers began their journey! The Rapid Relief Team (RRT) assisted as route marshals, handing out water and cereal bars, and cheering the happy crowd past each marshal point.

We guided walkers past Sandringham house, through the stunning gardens, and right by the church where Princess Charlotte was christened only 6 weeks previous!

While enjoying the peaceful sorroundings, and having a laugh with friends, each person participating contributed greatly to the Marie Curie cause.

At Marshal Point 13, just over halfway, RRT handed out bottles of water and cereal bars to cheerful but weary walkers, cheering them on for the final stage!

At last after 10km the finish line was in sight, and cheered on by friends and the RRT members, many participants ran through the finish line weary but happy!
RRT completed their job by helping clear up each marshal point and transporting everything back to base camp.
The RRT were glad to enjoy the weather and support the Marie Curie cause, and are looking forward to helping out in the future. For further information on the Marie Curie charity and the good work they do – go to go to www.mariecurie.org.uk where you can also make a donation if you wish.
