CA – Cancer Council’s Relay For Life, Hamilton ON

On June 5th, 2015, Hamilton RRT assisted in the set-up for the Relay for Life event at Bronte Provincial Park. Relay for Life is a fundraising event hosted by the Canadian Cancer Society to raise funds to fight and support Canadians battling cancer.

Cancer is the leading cause of premature death in Canada, so it’s reassuring to know that for the past 15 years, Relay For Life has been the largest cancer fundraising event in Canada. This year the event was held at Bronte Creek Provincial Park in Oakville Ontario and took place on both Saturday and Sunday. The Relay is a 12-hour event that challenges team of individuals to complete the lap and pass on the baton, raising the much needed funds to support people living with cancer. Hundreds of people arrived on site, accepting the baton and taking turns running or walking around the track. Participants met the 5k, 10k or even higher goals they had set, showing their invaluable support towards the Cancer Research.

A group of RRT volunteers from Hamilton, Ontario gathered together on June 5th to assist with the site set up for the Relay For Life Event. It was a priviledge to assist in a fundraising with this important cause and the team really had a sense of accomplishment after assisting in the set-up. Jobs included volunteers putting together tents, building the relay start and finish line, and assembling signage and refreshment stands.

In a very kind letter from the head organizer of the event, the team was commended on their organization, teamwork, keen attitude, and flexible schedule. The organizers commented “I’m really impressed with your work ethic and teamwork, truly a well-oiled machine!”
