AU – RRT, Starlight and Sunshine in Sydney on May the 6th, 2016

Friday the 6th May 2016 saw the perfect weather everyone had been hoping for – blue skies, no rain, and temperatures in the mid 20s. This was the much anticipated BBQ Breakfast and Lunch in Wynyard Park, central Sydney, which would see the RRT working with The Starlight Children’s Foundation for their annual National Starlight Day.
With set-up starting at 5:30am, 26 RRT personnel descended on Wynyard Park and were serving delicious bacon & egg rolls within an hour and right through to 10:00am, then changing over to the Lunch Menu; hamburgers or sausage sandwiches between 12:00noon and 3:00pm.
Over 1,800 meals were served to office workers, business people, construction workers, emergency services, and tourists alike, with great feedback on the food.
The Starlight Children’s Foundation took care of the money collection for the food, which was donated by the RRT, and their enthusiastic team of volunteers directed the hungry hordes through our dual serving line, ensuring everyone was served their food without delay.
Through the course of the day, RRT representatives met the Starlight CEO, as well as the large army of volunteers who had been walking the city selling their merchandise and rattling the can to help achieve the target of $1.3 million nationally. And of course, everyone was cheerfully fed!
It was so good to be part of the team of RRT volunteers working with The Starlight Children’s Foundation for this event – the work of this organization is so important in providing care and support for children affected by cancer and other serious illnesses, we are proud to support this very worthy cause.
The team finished the day tired out but very satisfied knowing that by contributing to the work of the Starlight Foundation, the RRT may bring some needed relief and put a smile on the faces of some more sick children – 2 great teams working together!
