Thursday the 4th of August 2016 was a great day for the homeless! Well no, there never really is any good day to be homeless. However, unfortunately a number of Australia’s citizens don’t have that choice.‎ Homeless Week in Frankston, Victoria, is a week in which many community members and groups aim to help care for these people, while raising awareness in the wider community. ‎

Frankston is located on the Mornington Peninsula, 40 minutes south east of Melbourne. One of Victoria’s lower socio-economic regions, many of its citizens are disadvantaged, homeless and rely on the constant generous support from the community. ‎

‎On this cold, bright and sunny morning during Homeless Week willing volunteers from many different organisations assembled  together to offer the Frankston community’s large number of homeless citizens  some of the comforts  that the rest of us take for granted on a daily basis. Frankston Community Support group, RRT and others were present to offer various services.‎

RRT Served a Free Lunch during Frankston Homeless Week

Among the services available were free haircuts, health care and dental checks, clothing giveaways, fresh fruit and vegetables. All these small services were designed to provide the homeless with a fresh, warm, and positive outlook in a dreary cold winter.‎

Eager to support this cause, once again, a well prepared and enthusiastic team of 10 Rapid Relief Team volunteers arrived on the scene before sunrise to prepare and cook large slabs of beef rump on 3 Weber barbecues.‎

Beef Roasted On-site was the Standout Menu Item

Once these roasts were cooked to perfection, they were thinly carved, and delicious slices were laid on fresh rolls with a generous serving of gravy and a side salad.

Lunch is Served!

RRT volunteers served these beef rolls as a hearty lunch to an appreciative crowd of patrons, along with fresh fruit, cookies, lamingtons, and donuts for dessert. A vegetarian option of Vege patties was also available and hot and cold beverages were on offer. Many patrons expressed their appreciation while returning for seconds! ‎

Fresh Fruit and a variety of Sweets were on offer for Dessert It was a meal appreciated by young and old!

Thanks to the diligent team from Berwick, a total of 162 Beef & gravy rolls, 50 pieces of fruit, 130 desserts, 260 cold beverages, and 160 hot drinks were served. A very successful event!!‎
