AU – RRT Band performs at Parramatta Mission Sydney

We were warmly welcomed at 9:30am on Friday, 2nd May 2014 by Parramatta Mission staff. After being briefed, the fourteen members of the Rapid Relief Team (RRT) set up and assisted with preparing lunch at Parramatta Mission. RRT donated, cooked & prepared 500 sausages, 20kg of onions, 300 bread rolls and bottled water. The Parramatta Mission also prepared and provided hot potato bake, peas, gravy, Greek salad & a choice of chocolate or cream sponge cake served with ice-cream for dessert. Approximately 200 people were served a meal from 11:30am to 1pm.
In addition to the food the RRT Band performed during lunch. The band comprised of 5 boys, a pianist, a drummer and 3 guitarists. They performed for one and a half hours on a stage behind where the lunch was being served and eaten. There was lots of cheering, clapping, dancing and bopping coming from the crowd. The mission staff later commented that the music provided an atmosphere which set the clients at ease. It was a joy to see the happy responses on people’s faces around the room, and thank you for all the gratefulness shown.
The Parramatta Mission team was fantastic to work with. The setout of the tables and chairs was creative and inviting. The selection of snacks and sweets on each table were mouth-watering. We encourage you to continue in the excellent support you provide for those in need in the community. Your passion is remarkable.
The Meal Plus program provides 40 000 nutritious meals per year. The ‘Plus’ is the additional services Parramatta Mission provides such as free advice and counselling. One of the greatest ‘Pluses’ Parramatta Mission provides is a safe place, where clients can have a friendly conversation. Loneliness is a terrible thing. Keep up the great work Parramatta Mission!
It was an awesome experience for the RRT to join in doing something for these people in need. It has given each of the members involved on the day, an insight into how these people live & what their needs are. It also helps us to increase our respect of homeless & disadvantaged people. Just a friendly “Hello” with a smile can mean so much and help someone through the day.
A fantastic day was had by all!
We look forward to working with you and being a support in the future.
