AU – Lake Cargelligo Supports Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea
Lake Cargelligo Cancer Support Group (LCCSG) has been hosting an Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea event in Lake Cargelligo every year for many years. A small town 600 kilometres west of Sydney, Lake Cargelligo is a small but enthusiastic community of just over 1000 people. The LCCSG’s selfless work comes from a dedicated team of local ladies who donate their time to make and sell morning tea packs to the local community. All funds raised go to the Cancer Council for cancer research, prevention and support.
This year the RRT offered their assistance to help with making, packing and delivering the morning teas. The ladies gladly accepted the offer so RRT formed a team who got together and cooked up a vast array of scones, slices and cakes.
On the 28th of May, the day of the Morning Tea, the team collected the cooking, met with the LCCSG ladies and together they prepared, packed and delivered 271 delicious morning teas! To take advantage of the day and to take the event to a new level of fundraising, RRT also offered to provide a lunch free of charge for LCCSG. They thought this was a great idea so the RRT set up its trailer in Liberty Park at the end of the main street of Lake Cargelligo on the same day and started cooking.
With the beautiful lake providing a breathtaking backdrop, the LCCSG and RRT teams worked together to sell, cook and serve approximately 250 sausage sandwiches, as well as hot and cold drinks.
It was a great opportunity to encourage community spirit and altogether the sales meant that over $2,000.00 was raised for the Cancer Council – not a bad effort for a town whose population is approximately 1000!
LCCSG and RRT look forward to serving again next year and continuing the fight against cancer.
