‘Christmas in the Park’ is an annual event that is organised by Community Action Gympie for members of the public in their care such as housing tenants, men and women’s shelter occupants and those involved in youth services.

This years’ event was held on Tuesday, 15th December 2015. A beautiful day dawned with hardly a cloud in the sky as many gathered in the Nelson Reserve park to join in the fun. With face painting, a petting zoo, fairy floss and snow cones, balloons folded into different shapes and various games there was plenty to do for every age.

RRT showed their support in providing a sausage sizzle lunch for those gathered. The Gympie RRT team turned up at 11:00am and by 12:00pm the BBQ was sizzling and there was no doubt a lot of interest from those gathered as the smell of sausage and onion cooking wafted around the park.

1:00pm arrived and the RRT served lunch to approx. 75 men, women and children who had gathered for the annual ‘Christmas in the Park’ event! There were many positive comments as everyone received their delicious lunch and water bottle, with many returning for seconds.

After lunch had been served there were fresh watermelon pieces and cookie and candy cane bundles to finish the day of with a festive spirit! One of the organizers commented “I know if it hadn’t been for you guys we couldn’t have had the face painting and petting zoo, thank you so much for coming.”

RRT was privileged to be a part of something that helps those in our communities with less, and extends a big thank you to Community Action Gympie for inviting us to help out with such a worthy cause!
