Young Food Hall (YFH) is a not for profit organisation that provides food for the individuals and families of the Young, NSW area, who are struggling to put food on the table. Through the hard work of Laurel Merrin and Eliza Boyle and their team of dedicated volunteers, they acquire provisions from Foodbank NSW, generous local businesses and local fundraising committees to distribute to those in need.

Young, a town of  12 700 people, is built on agricultural farming. The average annual wage in Young NSW is $37,910, less than half the nation’s average wage of $75,603 (2014 statistics) meaning that a sizeable percentage of the community find the day-to-day cost of living an ongoing challenge. It is the Young Food Hall’s goal to reduce the living expenses for these people.

The RRT in the town of Young recognise the contribution to the community that the Young Food Hall makes, and on Wednesday September the 23rd, 2015 they had the opportunity to support them with a fundraising breakfast.

It was a beautifully sunny and frosty morning when the team set up and cooked 120 bacon and egg rolls, a great way to start the morning for the passers-by on their way to work.  Along with team of 10 RRT volunteers, staff from YFH were also on hand to give any assistance needed. The sales revenue was donated to the Young Food Hall –  A total of $674.00 for this worthy cause.

The YFH was very grateful for this donation, which will go towards providing food for those in need. Laurel Merrin, the organisation’s coordinator stated: “It was an absolute pleasure to be involved with the RRT. It was indeed our gain. We thank the team for their kindness and compassion, and we were blessed to work with them.”

We look forward to further supporting this organisation as part of our common vision to provide benevolent relief to persons that need it most.
