CanAssist is a non-profit organisation dedicated to ensuring that all people in NSW, regardless of where they live, have access to cancer treatment and care by providing accommodation, financial assistance and practical support to people from rural and regional NSW. Recently a group of likeminded people founded a branch of CanAssist in the town of Lithgow.  Among the many fundraising initiatives they have instigated, a cake stall was held in the town centre on the 9th September. The local Rapid Relief Team was invited to participate.

Local RRT members had the opportunity to not only assist the CanAssist volunteers in manning the stall on the day, but to also donate home baking to be sold. The RRT marquee was set up and free tea, coffee, and water as well as tasting samples were provided.

The response of the local public was excellent with the cakes selling very quickly. Many others also gave monetary donations to CanAssist. The community of Lithgow was incredibely supportive of the event – the main regret of the occasion was that there wasn’t more cakes to sell!

It was a great combined effort, raising over $1100 for CanAssist and the great work that they do. RRT look forward to assisting CanAssist again in the future.
