RRT Volunteers Support Gympie Firefighters
Rapid Relief Team (RRT) has supported two significant events for the Gympie firefighting community, providing meals and refreshments for the retirement celebration of a long-serving Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) Lieutenant and the opening of the new Gympie South Fire Station.
RRT volunteers helped bring together emergency services personnel, volunteers, families and community members to celebrate these important milestones.
Colleagues, volunteers and members of the local community gathered on Monday, 15 September, to farewell a long-serving Lieutenant who retired after serving with QFES since 1986. The event recognised four decades of dedication to protecting and supporting Queensland communities.
The celebrations continued on Friday, 19 September, with the official opening of the new Gympie South Fire Station. The event provided an opportunity for emergency services personnel, volunteers and community members to connect, celebrate the new facility and acknowledge the important role firefighters play in the region.
RRT Local Team Leader Ralph Collett said it was a privilege to see the community come together for both occasions.
“These events were a wonderful opportunity to recognise the dedication of our emergency services personnel, celebrate a new chapter for Gympie South Fire Station and strengthen the connections that make our community so resilient,” Mr Collett said.
As the charitable arm of the Plymouth Brethren beliefs, RRT supports frontline workers and emergency services by providing food, donations and other resources, as well as hosting events for the community.
Established in 2013 to assist emergency services in times of disaster and crisis by providing meals and other support, RRT has expanded to more than 16,500 volunteers and provides support to the community through charitable donations and events.
