RRT has praised flood affected graziers and producers in North West Queensland farmers for their resilience, at a Farmers Community Connect event in Julia Creek. RRT, the charitable arm of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church, has distributed more than 200 tonnes of donated cattle feed to producers and graziers.

RRT volunteers served 150 meals to attendees, including bacon and egg rolls, barista-made coffee, and Signature Burgers. Rural support services were also on site for anyone needing advice or assistance.

Recent flooding in McKinlay and North West Queensland has been devastating for the farming community and hopefully today’s event helped lift spirits. Tens of thousands of cattle were lost in the intense summer floods, putting farmers through an emotional, stressful time that has then been followed with the unplanned financial costs of restocking herds and rebuilding infrastructure.

Seven trucks and an RRT semi-trailer rolled into Julia Creek ahead of the event at McIntyre Park, carrying 244 tonnes of high-quality cattle feed for graziers and producers.

“The farmers drove their trucks up and our volunteers have loaded them up with bags of XLR8 cattle pellets, which they really appreciate, but this is not a handout – it’s a hand up, and it helps boost mental health and morale."

Michael Dunn, RRT AU Operations Manager

RRT is all about giving practical assistance, but it is equally as important that our Farmers Community Connect Events encourage farmers to have a morning away from the farm. It gets them out with their families, among their mates and neighbours, sharing a meal but also sharing their experiences, challenges and triumphs. Farmers will head home after today’s event reminded that they are not in this alone.
