Westfield RRT Helps at October 14 Walk with Us to Cure Lupus

On October 14, Volunteers from the Westfield, New Jersey, RRT assisted the Alliance for Lupus Research during their Walk with Us to Cure Lupus event at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, in New York City.
Ken Farber, President and CEO of Lupus Research Alliance posing with RRT VolunteersAround 5,000 participators and sponsors came together to support and participate in a 5K walk to raise money to fund new and innovative research programs that will help lead to new treatments for Lupus, and one day a cure. Lupus is a chronic auto-immune disease that can damage any part of the body such as the joints, skin, kidneys, heart, lungs, and brain. Approximately, 90% of the patients are women commonly between the ages of 15 to 44.

The RRT volunteers arrived early Saturday morning and began to help with the setup of food, tables, chairs, and tents needed for the preparation of the event. Throughout the day, several of the volunteers assisted with ushering and cheering on the thousands of supporters while some of the others helped hand out fresh fruit from the refreshment tent.

The day was a great success, with over $1,300,000 in funds raised to support the research needed in view of improved treatments and a cure for those living with Lupus. As the event came to a close, the RRT volunteers helped the event coordinators clean up from a very successful fundraiser and look forward to helping at this event in the future!
