RRT donates Pediatric cots to Te Wao Nui Child Health Service in Wellington
The opening of the new Te Wao Nui Child Health Service in Wellington compelled the Rapid Relief Team (RRT) to reach out and support the new world class and purpose-built children’s hospital that will help save and change young lives.
The $116 million dollar facility which opened on 30th September 2022, contains 50 inpatient beds, which have ensuites and pull-down beds for parents.
We are lucky in New Zealand to have free healthcare, but funding isn’t limitless, and some things aren’t covered. One of their greatest needs of the foundation was the TOM 2 Paediatric beds to provide extra care and support for infants and preschool children staying in the hospital.
In total, the Health service were requiring 30 of these specialised cots for the fit out of the hospital. Prior to opening they had raised funds for 18 and were currently fundraising for a further 12.
Brent Smith, team leader and volunteer of the Rapid Relief team in Wellington was delighted to work with Wellington Hospitals Foundation around the donation of 6 TOM 2 Paediatric beds. “We felt compelled to reach out and support the new Children’s Hospital in this way as it would be benefiting many Children from the lower North Island and Upper South Island. The Cots are of premium quality and provide the top level of care required for young patients.”
Not only does the TOM 2 offer electric positioning and very high safety parameters, but they are also equipped with a wide range of sophisticated paediatric functions enabling them to also be used in Intensive Care, if required.
RRT were thrilled to hand over these cots and see first-hand experience of the amazing new facility and the benefits it will provide to thousands of babies and young children.
